Reese Witherspoon seriously pursued her acting profession after she enrolled at Stanford University. Early successes in the field of critical success included performances in films like Pleasantville and Election but it was her role as Elle Woods in the box office hit Legally Blonde that marked a turning point for her career. Her role on Walk the Line earned her an Academy Award nomination in 2005.
