April Ross

April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball athletes who earned medals during multiple Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to claim her third Olympic medal with fellow the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is hoping to secure an Olympic first gold medal but she's also hoping to earn more. At 39, it could be her last chance to do so. The athlete is optimistic she will be able to win top awards. If we play our best or even if we perform well, I think we'll win the gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. "I'm trying to also try a little luck." Ross was born in the city of Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents and sister lived there. Her athletic career was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of sports. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball, as well as basketball, track and running. She stood out however at this level. When she played in her time at the high school level in her university biography she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. As a tribute to her efforts she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. Her skills in volleyball brought her the Orange County Athlete of the Awards in the year 2000. Ross Klineman and Ross may be working on a project in 2017, but Ross was an experienced volleyball player before they joined forces. In reality, she was a winner of multiple major tournaments using two partners, among them the volleyball legend. Between 2007 and 2013 she was in a partnership with Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who took home the title of world champion with Kessy in 2009, also was significant on the world stage. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded a gold medal. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, beating them to it. The fate of the matter was that Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. In 2016, the duo took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC throughout her college years before becoming a professional. She had a great run during her time in the NCAA tournament. The year 2000 was her freshman year. saw her earn the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman's of Award and also be named an All-American. Additionally, she was one of the key players for helping the Trojans reach the Final Four. In her sophomore season she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. The last two years in the Trojans team the team was led to victories by winning the national title in consecutive years. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time legend winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross was a student of international relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the privilege of watching her daughter grow into a beach volleyball superstar. Ross suffered the loss of her mother to breast cancer in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Ross holds her mother close to her heart. Margie is an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
